Rockwatch Summer Field Trips are open for bookings and we’d love you to join us for some geology family fun!
Every summer we organise a range of different field trips around the country to give young geologists an insight into the range of places and activities you can do as a geologist. We visit coastlines and quarries in search of fossils, rocks and minerals, we study local buildings, walls and pavements that make up our local areas, and we work with museums and special Earth Science centres to find out about their local collections.
Here’s a quick round up of what’s coming up..
This year we will start things off with our residential 5-Day field trip to the Jurassic Coast in Swanage from 31 July to 4 August. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with lots of different geology sights and activities, and also to share experiences with other geology-loving families.
On 9 August we’ll be running a day of hands-on Geology crafts, games and fun at Ware Museum in Hertfordshire, and it’s completely FREE to join in!
Then on 16 August we’re heading to the Somerset Earth Science Centre to explore their fossil and mineral collection and then we’ll visit a real-life Quarry at nearby Moons Hill to search for plant fossils.
We’re off to the North Lincolnshire Museum to find out about Scunthorpe’s fascinating history with steel, followed by a visit to the Frodingham Ironstone pit on 19 August.
And we finish off the summer run of field trips with a visit to Bracklesham Bay in West Sussex on 30 September. First we try our hands at a spot of geodetective work at a local church, and then we head for the beach to find fossils.
So, there’s lots to get involved with and put those geology skills into action. Places are limited on our field trips and very reasonably priced so book now to secure your places!
