Join us on the next Rockwatch field trip to West Sussex for a spot of Building Stones Geodetective work at Earnley Church, followed by a fossil hunt on Bracklesham beach. The field trip is from 1.30pm til 5.30pm on Saturday 10 September.
The trip with be led by David Bone. We suggest you may wish to have lunch before the trip starts – picnic or local cafes.
Please note our field trips are for Rockwatch members only and their accompanying parent/guardian.
1. Meet at the beautiful 12th century Earnley church at 1.30 p.m. on Clappers Lane, Earnley Chichester (near Bracklesham Bay)

Please park respectfully and avoid blocking private driveways.
Wearing your geodetective hat, you’ll explore the building stones of Earnley church. David has set a fun quiz which will be sent to you when you book for the trip. You will need to print that out and bring it with you, plus a pen/pencil. And remember to bring your hand lens or magnifier card.
2. At the end of the Earnley visit we will drive the short distance to the Bracklesham seafront car park (Pay & Display) for a tea break and toilets. At 3.30 p.m. David will do a “show & tell” of Bracklesham fossils, then as the tide goes out we will head for the beach to begin our search in the wet sands for fossils – Eocene age lovely fossil shells and sharks teeth. We aim to finish about 5.30 p.m. although you are free to stay longer should you wish. Remember to bring small containers or small plastic bags for your fossil finds.
David Bone will have copies of his book “The Geology and Fossils of Bracklesham and Selsey” for a special discount price of £3, cash only on the day. Worth every penny!
