Rocks and Landscape in Popular Film and TV
MORNING SESSION: 10.00am – 1.30pm
Rock cutting and polishing (bring a sample and see what secrets it reveals), UNDERGROUND WALKS INTO THE DRIFT MINE – must be booked in advance.
SURFACE WALKS to the Hope Mine rock exposure to see a coal seam and marine band. It includes a brief visit to the fossil collection in the Blacksmith’s workshop and an opportunity to enter the Hope Pit tunnel.
Rock, mineral and fossils specimens to be identified by experts.
Practical demonstrations and hands-on activities aimed at the younger audience. Geological exhibits and poster displays by local groups and societies – rocks, fossils, minerals, company exhibits and sales of geological leaflets and guide books.
AFTERNOON SESSION: 14.00pm – 17.00pm
An afternoon of activities including Camera, Action, Yorkshire by Paul Hildreth, The Geology of Hogwarts by Leanne Hughes (British Geological Survey) and Countdowns & Challenges: A Geologist’s Guide to TV Quiz Shows Liam Herringshaw
The Museum also has an afternoon programme of activities which it is hoped will include: ‘Crunch and Judy Show’, ‘The Map Man’ and ‘Make a fossil’.
